  • Dry Yellow Mustard - 3/4 Cups
  • Garlic Powder - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Ground Turmeric - 1/2 Teaspoon
  • Pink Peppercorns - 1/8 Teaspoon*
  • Water - 1 Cup
  • Apple Cider Vinegar - 1/2 Cup

This Recipe is:

  • Saucepan - 6.5" (16mm) diameter
  • Whisk
  • Measuring Cups, measuring spoons
  • Storage container


  1. Combine mustard, garlic powder, ground turmeric, pink peppercorns and water into the saucepan on low heat stirring often,
  2. Do not put your face directly above the saucepan as the mixture warms. It burns the eyes. Turn on an overhead fan,
  3. Let the mixture boil down for 30 to 45 minutes until it becomes a thick paste
  4. Whisk in the apple cider vinegar and let cook another 10 to 15 minutes to the desired thickness
  5. Let cool and place in an airtight container. Keep in the firdge for no more than 3 months (it won't last that long :) )

With the Intolerant Dad being intolerant to nightshades, store bought mustard with paprika was not an option. We had to figure out a way to make our own homemade Mustard. After doing some research we found that pink peppercorns was a suitable replacement for paprika. With that in mind we gave it a try and now have a nightshade free mustard!


* For a Dijon flavor add a 1/4 Teaspoon instead
